Gazprom’s gas supply stop has the people of Vienna trembling. Households are still suffering from high energy costs, which have been further exacerbated by the failed policies of the federal government and the city of Vienna. FPÖ Vienna boss City Councilor Dominik Nepp is calling on Mayor Ludwig to take immediate action to protect the Viennese population from another cost explosion.
“Viennese households have already been massively burdened by the price increases in 2021 and 2022. It must not happen again that Wien Energie profits from a crisis while people have to fight for their existence. Mayor Ludwig has a duty to finally take action instead of standing idly by and passing the buck to the federal government,” says Nepp.
The city government must ensure that energy prices remain stable and that no further burdens are placed on the population. “There needs to be a comprehensive protective shield for the people of Vienna. This includes price caps for gas and electricity as well as emergency aid for households affected by rising operating costs. It must also be guaranteed that Wien Energie’s profits will flow into the budget this time in order to finance the support of the population,” demands Nepp.
The FPÖ Vienna will also insist that Wien Energie does not make any additional profits at the expense of the citizens. “The city of Vienna must not enrich itself again from the plight of the people. A further increase in operating costs is simply not feasible and would drive many families to ruin,” warns the FPÖ state party chairman.
Finally, Nepp appeals to Mayor Ludwig to finally take responsibility: “Protect the people of Vienna from a new wave of inflation and ensure that the people in this city are not further unduly burdened!”
