“The floods in Döbling could have been contained or even prevented entirely if the city government had not ignored this problem for years,” says Döblinger FPÖ district party chairman Klemens Resch.
The FPÖ is calling for an expansion of the sewer network in the affected regions at both the municipal and district levels. “About every third summer, Heiligenstadt is under water and the city government acts as if the problem could be solved by making people go on vacation by bike instead of by car. However, the truth is much simpler: it is not “man-made” climate change, but the man-made canal network that is causing these floods,” says Resch.
According to Resch, the city would not act out of pure ideological blindness. Most recently, in September 2021, the FPÖ-Döbling applied to the district parliament for a catalog of measures to prevent such floods in the district. This motion was voted down by the SPÖ, NEOS and the Greens. At the municipal level, similar applications from FPÖ-Vienna environmental spokesman LAbg. Udo Guggenbichler had the same fate – with fatal consequences for residents and passers-by.
“The FPÖ will also submit corresponding proposals in the coming meetings. If the city government continues to watch, its members will have to take personal responsibility for future damage,” concluded Resch.
