“FPÖ propaganda does not stand up to fact checks”

“The FPÖ propaganda does not stand up to a fact check. Already at the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Chancellor Karl Nehammer took the necessary steps to, on the one hand, fill the gas storage facilities and, on the other hand, to secure long-term alternatives to Russian gas deliveries. This has paid off: it is thanks to our federal government and especially our Chancellor that we are prepared for the gas supply stoppage by the Russian Gazprom and that our gas supply is not at risk. As numerous statements from FPÖ representatives show, we would be in a threatening situation today if we had listened to the FPÖ in the past. Because the Kickl-FPÖ has always advocated against an exit and thus for dependence on Putin. With the FPÖ, the gas supply to people and the economy would be at risk and Austria would be Putin’s puppet today,” says the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker.

Stocker continued: “Apparently the Kickl-FPÖ is still loyal to Russia. Instead of stating the facts as they are, the party media ‘FPÖ TV’ publishes a video in which the termination of the contract by OMV is criticized, although the Russian Gazprom is to be held responsible for the delivery stop. The gas price is used by the Kickl-FPÖ to stir up fear, unsettle people and promote Putin’s business, who then dictates whether we get gas at all and at what prices. The FPÖ is thus opposing the interests of Austria and the people – it is not the people who are the boss, but Kickl’s friend Putin. FPÖ now stands for friends of Putin in Austria.”
