Vienna (OTS) – A parliamentary question answered by the Green Justice Minister Zadic to the liberal National Council member Christian Lausch shows that the “NEW youth correctional system” project in Vienna Simmering Münnichplatz is developing into a chaos project that is leaving the taxpayer several million euros in the pocket. “The relocation of the youth prison system from the Gerasdorf prison to Simmering under the motto ‘NEW youth prison’ shows Minister Zadic’s lack of interest in her office,” said Lausch.
Especially in times like these, with an exploding number of crimes committed by young people, primarily asylum seekers, it is fatal what Zadic came up with and will no longer implement. “In mid-2023, the Green Minister promised that the project would be implemented by the end of 2023, and since then completion has been continuously postponed – we are now already in September 2024, which will not happen either. Zadic will no longer live to see its completion as a minister,” Lausch noted.
“Meanwhile, millions of euros of hard-earned tax money are pouring into the project, even though there are more important problems in the prison system that need to be solved. The acute staff shortage has not yet been resolved, special medical treatment from private doctors has not yet been abolished and there are outbreaks during hospital visits almost every week. There is hardly any talk of deportations of criminal foreigners. Protecting the population from criminals looks different!” stated Lausch.
“Even if Minister Zadic states in her answer to the question that there should be a separation between adult and young inmates in the detention cells, this is not the case during employment in the companies,” explained Lausch and continued: “All in all, this is also the case The project by the ÖVP and the Greens is an indictment of this government, which does not deserve the name.”
