FPÖ – Krauss: Vienna’s schools in crisis – City Councilor Wiederkehr’s educational promise was not kept

Vienna (OTS) “A year ago, city councilor Christoph Wiederkehr promised a comprehensive improvement in the situation in Vienna’s schools. Today, however, it appears that this promise has not been fulfilled in any way. Instead of making progress, we are experiencing a dramatic deterioration in the educational landscape in our city,” said education spokesman for the Vienna FPÖ club chairman Maximilian Krauss.

The figures from the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) show an alarming increase in violent crimes in Vienna’s schools. “Instead of guaranteeing a safe space for our children, teachers and students are increasingly confronted with violence and fear, which massively affects everyday school life. This worrying development clearly shows that the city government’s measures are completely inadequate. “City Councilor Wiederkehr has failed across the board,” Krauss is certain.

In addition, the classes are still overcrowded. Despite repeated announcements, no significant relief could be achieved. “The learning conditions for the students and the working conditions for the teaching staff are far from the promised improvements – on the contrary, they are worse than ever. Our children’s educational opportunities are becoming increasingly restricted,” Krauss says angrily.

What is particularly serious is the fact that the number of teaching staff has not been increased sufficiently. The lack of qualified teachers leads to a significant loss of quality in teaching and increases the pressure on existing teachers, who are already reaching their limits. Instead of offering forward-looking solutions, City Councilor Wiederkehr is simply managing the crisis.

“It is unacceptable that City Councilor Wiederkehr has not kept his promises and that the situation in our schools has continued to deteriorate. We are demanding immediate concrete measures to ensure safety and quality in Vienna’s schools,” emphasizes Krauss.

He calls for an immediate increase in teaching staff, effective violence prevention and decisive relief in overcrowded classes. “The future of our children must no longer be jeopardized by empty promises. It is high time for the city government to live up to its responsibility and finally end the educational crisis in Vienna!”
