FPÖ – Kassegger: “The gas delivery stop brought about by the ÖVP and the Greens will clearly lead to price increases” | Freedom Parliamentary Club
Vienna (OTS) –

“The gas delivery stop brought about by the ÖVP and the Greens will clearly lead to price increases. Austria was once the major gas hub in Europe, but the policies of the black-green federal government have moved us from pole position to last place. Just 20 percent of the filled gas storage facility belongs to the Republic. That’s enough for two winter months. After that, gas will have to be purchased, and that will come at a high price. The fact that Nehammer claims that the delivery stop would not lead to price increases is about as close to reality as that shutting down the economy during the Corona period will not kill it and that pumping billions in Corona aid into the economy will not would have fueled inflation,” said FPÖ energy spokesman NAbg. MMMag. Dr. Axel Kassegger today.

Nehammer and the ÖVP had massively jeopardized the supply situation with their policies, Kassegger continued: “Austria used to be the first collection and distribution point. By passing it on, Austria earned a lot of money, which in turn meant that private customers, businesses and industry had to pay less. Now we are the last in the supply chain and, as we all know, the last ones will be the ones to bite if there is a gas shortage. If, for example, Germany has a gas shortage, how likely is it that enough gas will be piped through to us?”

The fact that the gas storage facilities are currently filled with 95 terawatt hours was an enormous loss of business to the detriment of the Austrians, says Kassegger, from whose point of view price increases are already foreseeable. “In order to fill the gas storage facilities, ex-ÖVP Finance Minister Brunner and the Green Environment Minister Gewessler bought gas at an exorbitant price of four billion euros. At today’s exchange rate, the current value is just 800 million euros. The delivery stop will clearly lead to a significant price increase and increase inflation enormously again. The price increase has already occurred on the stock exchange. These increases also affect the price of electricity. The Austrians are facing a cold winter,” the Freedom Party concluded.
