FPÖ – Kaniak: “The allocation of health insurance positions must urgently be liberalized to protect patients” | Freedom Parliamentary Club

Vienna (OTS) “The allocation of specialist medical insurance positions is tied to too many requirements, regulations and sensitivities. This blocks the urgent expansion of security of supply for patients in the country and thus endangers the life and limb of sick people,” criticized the liberal health spokesman and chairman of the parliamentary health committee NAbg today. Mag. Gerhard Kaniak.

This criticism is based on important statements from well-known internal medicine specialists in a press release on this matter. According to this, “a dozen internal medicine practices in Vienna alone are urgently waiting for an additional medical position to be allocated. Each of these positions must be approved individually by the ÖGK. However, according to the ÖGK, there are currently no positions available for internal medicine,” Kaniak quoted from the broadcast. “The Austrian Health Insurance Fund not only ignores patients with their long waiting times for appointments, but also those doctors who would like to hold a position at the health insurance fund,” says Kaniak.

“The Green Health Minister Rauch could finally wake up from his left-wing slumber and introduce another amendment that could ensure security of supply with more doctors for patients. The aim must be to achieve equality between outpatient clinics and doctor’s practices in the area of employment. It is sheer nonsense that an individual practice is only allowed to employ one doctor and group practices are only allowed to employ two. It must be up to the practice to decide how to cope with the influx of patients,” said Kaniak, calling for a rethink from outdated chamber thinking.

“Austria must break out of the centuries-old system in order to create a new healthcare system that is suitable for patients. The system must not degenerate into an end in itself, but as a service provider it must ensure health care and offer sick people unconditional help,” emphasized the FPÖ health spokesman.
