FPÖ – Kaniak: “EU health funds used inefficiently – stop wasting!” | Freedom Parliamentary Club
Vienna (OTS) –

“More than three billion euros per funding period are made available for health care in developing countries, but the impact of this money is shockingly small,” criticized FPÖ health spokesman NAbg today. Mag. Gerhard Kaniak. The deficits are particularly noticeable in countries such as Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe, where poorly coordinated projects led to inefficient distribution of equipment and medicines and significant additional costs. “EU funds are wasted in bureaucratic and inefficient structures, while the concrete benefits for the local people are hardly visible,” continued Kaniak.

The Court of Auditors report also criticizes the lack of transparency in the allocation of funds to global health initiatives, the lack of clear criteria and inadequate monitoring of results. “The EU must finally ensure that development funds are used efficiently and transparently so that they reach where they are really needed,” demanded Kaniak and continued: “While multi-class medicine is increasingly being introduced in EU states like Austria, tax money is seeping away Bureaucracy and inadequately planned projects in third countries – that is not only a disgrace for European development policy, but also a disrespect for Austria as a net contributor,” said Kaniak indignantly.

“Stop the inefficient distribution of money! Especially in view of the economic decline in Europe, it must be questioned whether such large amounts should flow to third countries at all. But if that is the case, the money must at least make a targeted and visible contribution to improving people’s living conditions. This will not succeed without clear criteria and consistent documentation. The condition of expensive technical equipment is particularly deplorable, as it often cannot be used or maintained and rots because there is a lack of appropriately trained staff,” explained the liberal health spokesman.
