FPÖ – Kainz: “Without heating through the winter
Vienna (OTS) –

“Österreichische Post AG apparently follows the practice of inducing its postal delivery workers to forgo heating in their electric cars in winter in order to increase the range of the postal vehicles. “This is absolutely unacceptable, especially in rural areas where winter temperatures often drop well below zero degrees Celsius,” criticized the liberal National Council member Alois Kainz today.

This decision is the result of the inadequate performance of the postal vehicles in use. The longer and especially very hilly routes cannot therefore be overcome with heated electric cars. “The Austrian Post AG has made great progress in expanding its electric car fleet in recent years, but this development clearly grossly neglects its responsibility and duty of care towards its own employees!” the MP continued.

“Electric cars may represent an environmentally friendly alternative, but this must not come at the expense of workers. Instead of guaranteeing drivers the conditions they need for their work during Advent, they are forced into unsafe and health-threatening situations,” criticized Kainz.

“It has once again become apparent that a total switch to e-mobility is not advisable as long as e-vehicles do not offer similar performance to combustion engines. Particularly in the world of work, suitable vehicles must be provided to ensure the safety and well-being of employees. The handling of the Austrian Post should therefore be criticized in the strongest possible terms,” concluded Kainz.
