Nomination is the democratic right of the FPÖ – Duzdar allows himself to be harnessed to the cart by the federal government
Vienna (OTS) – Today, FPÖ media spokesman and Secretary General NAbg described it as a “bad game with democracy”. Christian Hafenecker criticized the SPÖ’s attempts to delay the nomination of Peter Westenthaler as FPÖ representative on the ORF Board of Trustees through a flimsy examination. “It is remarkable that the SPÖ media spokeswoman allowed herself to be harnessed to the government to delay Westenthaler’s nomination at the March meeting of the Board of Trustees. In 2001, as the then FPÖ club chairman, Westenthaler himself helped negotiate the incompatibilities for foundation boards in the amendment to the ORF law. His appointment complies with all legal requirements. This was also subjected to a legal review in advance. The professional suitability is beyond doubt anyway.”
The concerns raised by SPÖ media spokeswoman Duzdar could be dispelled in a second, according to Hafenecker: “Peter Westenthaler has no employment relationship, no freelance service contract and no stake in the company oe24. So nothing stands in the way of Westenthaler starting his work on the ORF Board of Trustees for the benefit of those paying compulsory fees – to strengthen a truly independent and leaner state broadcaster.”
The SPÖ could learn a lesson from board members like Westenthaler. As a supervisory board member at ORF, he will keep an eye on the company’s well-being, which has not always been the case for SPÖ supervisory boards in recent times. “SPÖ bigwig Gusenbauer left a debacle at Signa as chairman of the supervisory board. Not only did he ‘accompany’ the two largest bankruptcies in the country’s history, he also sold consulting services to Signa and thus put millions into his own pockets. That is the big difference. The comparison makes it certain,” said FPÖ media spokesman and Secretary General NAbg. Christian Hafenecker.
