FPÖ – Hafenecker: “ÖVP is betraying around 1.3 million commuters by inaction against fuel price madness” | Freedom Parliamentary Club

Commuting to work must become affordable again

Vienna (OTS) “Rising fuel prices, punitive CO2 taxes and canceled expressway and motorway projects are the policies of the so-called People’s Party to take money out of the pockets of hard-working citizens. Ultimately, this means that the journey to work becomes too expensive for many people. Interventions in the flat rate and taxes for fuel must be designed in such a way that the journey to work becomes affordable again,” said the FPÖ General Secretary and liberal transport spokesman NAbg today. Christian Hafenecker.

“Due to the political and social indifference of the misery representatives of the ÖVP and the Greens, who also shrug off inflation that is immense compared to the EU, over 1.3 million commuters in Austria are financially fleeced and betrayed. In addition, the official mileage allowance has not been valorized since 2008 and is no longer in any relation to current consumer prices,” explained Hafenecker.

Of these 1.3 million commuters, around 730,000 would claim the large commuter allowance and this shows that traveling to work by public transport is unreasonable for this population group. The liberal transport spokesman also states that a new debate about envy is developing around commuting, completely out of touch with reality: “Anyone like the Green Minister Gewessler who wants to abolish the commuter flat rate or when a VCÖ criticizes the fact that 30 percent of those receiving the flat rate earn more than 45,000 euros in annual income , has nothing to do with reality and probably lives in a left-wing Bobo district right in front of a subway station. However, people in rural areas in particular rely on their cars every day to get to work, to the doctor or to do their shopping. It’s not surprising that the eco-communist Greens don’t care about their fate at all, but that the ÖVP, as the self-proclaimed party of rural areas, makes all this madness possible is simply treason!”

“It is urgently necessary for the CO2 tax to be abolished without replacement and for the insane mineral oil tax (MöSt) to be massively reduced, if not suspended entirely. In addition to the MöSt, which is currently 39.7 cents per liter for diesel and 48.2 cents for petrol, there are also 13.5 cents for diesel and 12.3 cents and then there is the VAT on top. It is completely incomprehensible that the ÖVP doesn’t make a peep about this and looks on with a cold smile as this creeping expropriation of the hard-working population takes place. In contrast to all other parties, we libertarians stand for real relief without punitive taxes and climate hysteria! However, this requires a strong FPÖ and a People’s Chancellor Herbert Kickl,” emphasized Hafenecker
