Vienna (OTS) – “Wind turbines have to be illuminated at night, otherwise problems arise, for example when rescue helicopters are deployed. At the same time, the population, especially in areas densely built up with wind turbines, finds the flashing annoying. It is therefore good that a technically practical solution has now been found and the law is being adapted accordingly,” welcomed FPÖ technology spokesman NAbg today. Gerhard Deimek called for the change to the Aviation Act in his speech in the National Council. Among other things, this creates the possibility that aviation obstacles, such as wind turbines, can only activate their night lighting when necessary and this should be controlled by Austro Control.
However, Deimek warned that the costs incurred should not be passed on to taxpayers and suggested that politicians should bring all stakeholders from the sector together again at one table: “The Civil Aviation Advisory Board is the right body for this, in order to deal with many other current ones to discuss concerns and develop solutions.”
