On January 1, 2025, the former liberal National Council member from Vorarlberg will become Brigadier Dr. Reinhard E. Bösch, acting chairman of the Parliamentary Federal Armed Forces Commission. The task of this commission, appointed by the Austrian National Council, is to process extraordinary complaints from soldiers and to check that everything is going well during inspection visits to all offices of the Federal Army at home and abroad. On the one hand, it is about supporting the individual when injustice is committed and, on the other hand, supporting the leadership in strengthening the army. Bösch will hold this position until the end of 2026. At the same time, Bösch serves as a brigadier on the advisory staff of the Chief of General Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces in Vienna.
Bösch’s military career began as a one-year volunteer in 1975. After numerous courses and seminars, the historian with a doctorate rose from fighter platoon and company commander through various staff divisions to his current position. Bösch was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1989 to 1994, a federal councilor from 1994 to 1999 and then, with an interruption until 2022, a member of the National Council. Bösch held the office of chairman of the State Defense Committee and defense spokesman for the Freedom Parliamentary Club for many years.
