“Apparently, this decline in asylum applications again announced today by ÖVP Interior Minister Karner serves as a kind of advance payment for the Austro-loser traffic light, which ÖVP chairman Nehammer and Co. are currently working on with the Babler-SPÖ and another left-wing party. That’s just downplaying the real problem that exists – it’s nothing more. The fact is that in the last five years the ÖVP and the Greens have been responsible for 240,000 asylum applications,” said FPÖ security spokesman NAbg. Hannes Amesbauer on relevant statements by ÖVP Interior Minister Karner.
“We must finally put an end to the approach whereby anyone who crosses Austria’s border and utters the magic word ‘asylum’ comes into our system and is not sent back; this is exactly the paradigm shift that is needed. We libertarians made it clear even before the National Council election that we wanted to ensure this and that we were aiming for zero asylum applications. All those who believe that this is not possible lack the will and courage to do so. Other European countries have shown that changes in immigration policy are certainly possible, such as Social Democratic-governed Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands, which have already applied for an opt-out from EU asylum policy,” explained Amesbauer and continued: ” We must be able to decide for ourselves again who is allowed to come into our country and who is not and, among other things, we also need real border protection with pushbacks and consistent deportations, including to Afghanistan and Syria.”
