Four drones for one hallelujah

Once again, ski fans will have to buckle up and hold their breath when the long Hahnenkamm weekend takes place from January 22nd to 26th, 2025: Once again, ORF 1 will broadcast the final training on Wednesday (January 22nd) as well as all competitions live. Another highlight are the analyses, award ceremonies and interviews live the evening before. ORF SPORT + will broadcast the team captains’ meetings for the downhill and slalom on January 23rd and 24th. In addition, ORF 1, ORF 2 and ORF III offer a comprehensive supporting program for Kitzbühel 2025, including the sports documentary “Kitzbühel am Schirm” about three generations of ORF sports directors, a “Doc 1” about “The silent heroes of the Streif” or finally Melissa Naschenweng, who throws herself into the Kitzbühel party scene for “Celebrities, Parties, Slope Chats”, and the film “Klammer – Chasing the Line”. The ÖSV Eagles were just as impressive as Franz Klemm in Innsbruck at the 2024/25 Four Hills Tournament – the documentary “The Tale of the Golden Eagle” is dedicated to them.

ORF chief director Michael Kögler, who will be the world director at the World Ski Championships in Saalbach (70 hours live on ORF 1 from February 4th to 16th), is using four drones this time. For the first time, fans at home “fly” to the finish line with a drone. Kögler: “For us, this is a perfect test run under competitive conditions because we are planning to do something similar for the first time at the World Cup in Saalbach.”

Oliver Polzer comments on all races with Hans Knauß (Super-G), Armin Assinger (Downhill) and Thomas Sykora (Slalom) at his side. Rainer Pariasek reports to the Super-G and Downhill together with Armin Assinger and Hans Knauß from the finish area, where Alina Zellhofer and Benni Raich line up for the Slalom.

The ORF TV supporting program

From Tuesday to Friday “Studio 2” reporter Jan Matejcek from Kitzbühel will report (at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2). He reports on the development of tourism in the Gamsstadt, takes a look behind the scenes of the big ski spectacle and the preparations for the Weißwurst party. “Guten Morgen Österreich” (from 6:30 a.m. on ORF 2) will also focus on the major sporting event on January 23rd and 24th.

Details about the supporting program:

“Kitzbühel am Schirm” (Wednesday, January 22nd, 9:05 p.m., ORF 1)

The new ORF documentary at the start of the Hahnenkamm weekend takes a look behind the cameras that bring the world’s most famous ski race to screens around the globe year after year. What began 66 years ago with five shots will be a high-tech event in 2025 with around 50 cameras to capture the most spectacular images of the race from a wide variety of perspectives. And so the three men who are and were responsible for the live production met for an interview: director pioneer Lucky Schmidtleitner, who celebrated his 94th birthday shortly after the Kitzbühel weekend, Fritz Melchert, who ran the race in… era of digitalization, and Michael Kögler, who today sends more pictures than ever before from Kitzbühel all over the world.

“Doc 1: The silent heroes of the Streif” (Wednesday, January 22nd, 10:05 p.m., ORF 1)

Who is actually responsible for the spectacle becoming what it is? In this documentary, Lisa Gadenstätter looks behind the scenes of the Gams city and dedicates herself to the people who often put together the mega event after months of preparatory work. In order to find out first-hand what it takes to turn the ski run into the famous, infamous Streif, Lisa Gadenstätter has come up with a special event – she walks the Streif from bottom to top. Together with Streif piste manager Herbert Hauser, she fights her way uphill. 3,312 kilometers, 860 meters in altitude. Will she even be able to climb the mousetrap with an 85 percent gradient?

“Kitzbühel 25 – celebrities, parties, piste gossip” (Sunday, January 26th, 8:15 p.m., ORF 1)

The legendary Hahnenkamm weekend is taking place in Kitzbühel for the 85th time this year. Athletes, celebrities and fans gather in Austria’s luxury ski resort to cheer and celebrate. In the middle of it all is singer Melissa Naschenweng, who is there first hand at the sports competitions, award ceremonies and parties. She opens the doors to the public in Kitzbühel – meets celebrities, goes to the most popular parties and meets for piste gossip.

“The Fairy Tale of the Golden Eagle” (Sunday, January 26th, 9:10 p.m., ORF 1)

The Four Hills Tournament 2024/25: So incredible, so dramatic, so wonderful for the Austrian ski jumpers. A fairy tale with a happy ending, with successes – perhaps for eternity. It was the fairy tale of the golden eagle. Austria’s ski jumpers achieved eleven out of twelve possible podium places at the Four Hills Tournament and thus broke all records. Daniel Tschofenig brought the Golden Eagle back to Austria after ten years, the decision was made as close as possible in the last round. A look back at a real winter fairy tale.

“Klammer – Chasing the Line” (Sunday, January 26, 10 p.m., ORF 1)

The streets of Innsbruck are empty, the shops are closed, the whole of Austria sits spellbound in front of the television and holds its breath. Because there was only one favorite in the downhill skiing at the 1976 Winter Olympics: the 22-year-old Carinthian mountain farmer Franz Klemm. The pressure of expectations of the entire nation rests on his shoulders, the competition is fierce and the weather conditions do the rest. In this biopic, ski legend Franz Klemm alias Julian Waldner once again looks back on the internationally celebrated downhill skiing at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck.

The Kitzbühel Week on ORF-Tirol

ORF Tirol will once again report extensively from Kitzbühel on all channels – in the corresponding programs on radio and television, online and on social media. In advance, the reporting is about preparations from a sporting and economic perspective. The social surroundings with prominent visitors as well as various parties and receptions will also be part of ORF Tirol’s reporting on all platforms.

The ORF Tirol reporters will also provide live elements directly from Kitzbühel on the race days. Furthermore, ORF Tirol will once again produce special social media content that will delight the audience and ensure the highest click rates.

Kitzbühel 2025 on hit radio Ö3

The Ö3 listeners are there at all the important events when the ski races take place in Kitzbühel: The Ö3 sports reporters Adi Niederkorn and Daniel Kulovits report on all the important results and provide outlooks, background information, analyzes and interviews with the ski stars. “Ö3 microman” Tom Walek will provide the fans in the finish area with information and background reports.

The Kitzbühel Week online and in Teletext

The number one online contact point for what’s happening at Kitzbühel Week is again this year sport.ORF.at, the ORF-Ski-Alpin-Special and ORF ON, which put together an overall multimedia package: fans can watch live streams of all ORF TV broadcasts and can also enjoy the full races or the highlights on demand (including your own video collection on ORF ON). A live ticker provides the current state of affairs up to the second. Previews, analyses, interviews and result lists provide detailed information about what is happening on Streif and Ganslernhang.
All news, result lists, tables and live tickers are also available in the ORF TELETEXT winter sports magazine from page 260.
