33 female CEOs lead Fortune Global 500 companies and set a new record with 6.6 %

Today Fortune published the list “2025 Fortune Global 500 (™)”, the relevant ranking of the world’s largest company after sales for the 2024 financial year.
For the twelfth time in a row, Walmart took first place on the Fortune Global 500 list, followed by Amazon, China’s state power grid, Saudi Aramco and China National Petroleum. The top 10 Fortune Global 500 companies achieved annual sales of over $ 370 billion, a total of $ 4.7 trillion.
The relevant ranking of Fortune on the current corporate world regulations showed the dominant presence of US companies (138). The United States continues to run in front of Greater China (130 companies, three less than in the previous year). Greater China includes mainland china, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Companies from China (1) and the USA (8) set 9 of the 10 most profitable Fortune Global 500 companies.
The financial sector continues to dominate the list of 121 companies at the top, followed by energy (79), motor vehicles and parts (35), technology (34) and healthcare (33). Together, these sectors make up 60 % of companies on the list and achieve 66 % of total sales.

On the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list, companies achieved a record sales of $ 41.7 trillion (an increase of 1.8 % compared to the previous year) and employed 70.1 million people worldwide. In 2024, these companies also recorded their second profitable year of all times and achieved total sales of $ 2.98 trillion, which corresponds to an increase of 0.4 % compared to the previous year. Saudi Aramco (No. 4) once again led the ranking of the most profitable companies, achieved a net profit of USD 105 billion and thus claimed his position as the most profitable company in the list for the fourth time in a row.
The number of female CEOs in Fortune Global 500 companies reached a new record value with 33 (6.6 %) and thus increased by five compared to the previous year. The well -known managers include Mary Barra von GM, who was awarded one of the most powerful women in 2025, Gail K. Boudreax from Elevance Health, Jane Fraser from Citigroup, Sarah M. London by Centene and Sandy Ran Xu from JD.com. The United States is at the top with 16 companies led by female CEOs, followed by China with five, France with four and Brazil and Great Britain with two each.
The Fortune Global 500 companies are based in 243 cities in 36 countries and territories worldwide. The five leading cities-Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Shanghai and London-are the seat of almost a quarter of the Fortune Global 500 companies. London has recovered into the top five for the first time in 2022.
Nine companies were first included in the Fortune Global 500 list, including the QNB Group (No. 419), Lithia Motors (No. 434) and ICICI Bank (No. 464).
