“Austria is an export country – six out of ten euros are earned abroad and thousands of jobs depend on our international economic relationships. Anyone who pulls walls around not only blocks the competition, but also opportunities and growth. A ‘Fortress Austria’ would not be a protective shield, but a cage that suffocates our economy in the long term, ”says Kurt Egger, Secretary General of the Economic Association.
The latest figures from the Statistics Austria to foreign trade are a clear warning signal: In November, exports broke up by 14.7 percent. The decline in trade in Germany is particularly noticeable.
“Germany is our biggest trading partner. An alarm signal is that exports have dropped there several times in a row. We need stable and good relationships with our European and international partners as well as a noticeable reduction in non -wage costs. This is the only way we can keep the Austria attractive location and secure jobs, ”says Egger.
