Theme week of the “Consumer Dialogues: Forest & Wood” brings free activities to Graz, starting on April 15th. with timber construction pioneer Erwin Thoma at 6:30 p.m. in the town hall
Vienna (OTS) – Die „Austrian consumer dialogues: Forest & Wood“, the COMÚN Foundation’s large series of events to impart knowledge and raise awareness, which has been running in Styria since March 11th, is coming to Graz. Various free activities are offered for a week and are open to anyone interested. These include lectures, discussions and participatory activities in public spaces.
„What significance does the forest have for the city and the people in it, what role can wood play in house construction in the future and what impact does EU legislation have on Austria? We will address all of these questions and more during the Graz Theme Week as part of the consumer dialogues. The program in Graz at a glance
It begins with a discussion on the future of wooden construction in the town hall on April 15th at 6:30 p.m. State Councilor Simone Schmiedtbauer, Deputy Mayor Judith Schwentner and COMÚN board member Sebastian Bohrn Mena open the event, followed by wooden house pioneer Erwin Thoma. He will then discuss with Sylvia Polleres, Holzforschung Austria, and Georg Rappold, Ministry of Agriculture, moderated by Hermine Hackl.
From Tuesday, April 16th to Thursday, April 18th, the “Spähikel” of the Austrian Federal Forests in the Graz city park can be visited. With free entry, children and adults alike get special insights into nature without disturbing the wild animals. Because the “Spähikel”, which is set up on the grounds of the traffic garden and is freely accessible from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., uses high technology.
Already fully booked offers for students
At the same time, the city of Graz also offers its own offers for students during the theme week. The Green Space and Water Department has organized various school workshops to raise awareness and even a tree planting campaign, although these are already fully booked.
The conclusion is a discussion in the HLW Schrödinger in the run-up to the elections to the EU Parliament. After a keynote speech about the EU, legal regulations and sustainability by Gert Pfleger from the paper producer Norske Skog, candidates from the ÖVP, SPÖ, FPÖ, Greens & NEOS answered the students’ questions under the moderation of sustainability consultant Lisa Münzer.
