Eintracht Frankfurt and the SGS Essen open the Bundesliga season of women this Friday. For the first time, 14 teams start the new season instead of the previous twelve. The latest member? The 1. FC Union Berlin.
“Believe in you and it will come true, the 1st Bundesliga is finally there for us,” the fans sang when the climb was finally perfect: On April 27, the Köpenickers prevailed 6-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach and were therefore no longer suppressed by the first three places – although they only rose from the regional league to the second division. But that’s not all: Union’s decisive promotion game played footballers in front of over 14,000 viewers in the stadium at the old forester’s shop – numbers from which the competition in the first division can only dream.
The Bundesliga clubs were able to sell just 2700 tickets on average per game last season. Thus, fewer than half of the average of 6,600 people who viewed women in the highest English league in the stadium came. The television money in England also clearly exceeds the local: the Women’s Super League receives over 15 million euros annually – three times as much as Bundesliga. In addition, the German clubs will receive a smaller part of the entire income in the coming season. The reason? The league was enlarged by two starting places. However, a new TV contract has not yet been agreed this season, so that the funds have to be divided by two clubs.
German football is left behind
Others who finance the Bundesliga financially? This is also likely to be familiar with fans of the footballers in this country. And there are also some parallels in terms of sport: because the once best league in the world has been left behind at European level. In the Women’s Champions League, no German team has passed the quarter -finals in the past two years. The best players leave the league: This is how German international Jule Brand from VfL Wolfsburg said goodbye to join Olympique Lyon in France. She said: “I know that the players who are here are the best.” To counteract this, the DFB announced on Thursday that he intended to found a common company with the clubs of the Bundesliga.

The national title fight also determines FC Bayern women. Elf of the 14 coaches and trainers typed in first place. After three championships in a row, FC Bayern starts the new season again by returning from midfielder Lena Oberdorf. The German international was injured for the entire pre -season and is now triggers a lively competition at Bayern: on the double six, the English European champion Georgia Stanway and Sarah Zadrazil have been established in the past season. It will remain exciting how the new coach José Barcala, who came from Servette Geneva to Bayern, knows how to deal with this luxury problem. Sports director Bianca Rech, confidently spoke about the new coach: “He is very empathetic, communicative and open -minded, has good access to the team and a clear line.”
Expert game with record backdrop
On Saturday, FC Bayern welcomes one of his biggest competitors in the title fight for the official opening game of the season: Bayer Leverkusen. Over 50,000 tickets were sold for the game on Thursday – new Bundesliga record! A good sign that the euphoria that came up in summer when the German national team came to the semi -finals at the European Championship was not yet consumed. Until it starts on Saturday evening, the number could even rise. The European record for a league game is within sight: it is 60 739 viewers in the duel between Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona in Spain.
Bayer Leverkusen is even more assessed by many fans and experts after fourth place in the previous year. Coach Roberto Pätzold was also confident: »It is very valuable that we were able to hold a large part of the team together for the first time in many years. We were also able to intensify very specifically. ”VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt also want to attack again. VfL remained completely without title for the first time in the previous season. The new old coach Stephan Lerch, back in the Autostadt after four years, has to moderate a large change: 15 players went, twelve were added. Nevertheless, “we want to be a tough opponent for Bayern in the title race,” said the coach.
At the bottom of the table, Carl Zeiss Jena and the last pure women’s association in the Bundesliga, the SGS Essen, will probably fight for relegation with the two ascended teams from Nuremberg and Hamburg. Although the new HSV trainer Liese Brancao comes from just three defeats in 148 games from St. Pölten and wants to ensure a surprise with her new team. At least she brought eight new players in her ex-club. Her new job also seems to her: Brancao was born in the Brazilian city of Nova Hamburgo.
