With calm and a sensational parade, Kevin Trapp secured a point in Augsburg to his Frankfurters in the Bundesliga.

Afterwards, too, Kevin Trapp was the focus again, even in those moments when he was somewhere else. But there was also a lot about the goalkeeper. Many words of praise came about whether from Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller, sports director Markus Krösche or the teammate.
Toppmöller described the Parade of Trapp as a “world class” and “sensation saver”, in which he had steered the shot of the Augsburg attacker Phillip Tietz shortly before the end and kept his team from defeat. Krösche attested the Eintracht goalkeeper “a super game”. He had “broadcast calm – and then of course this giant budget”.
The fact that Trapp was in the goal was already in the goal this Sunday afternoon. The fact that the 34-year-old appeared immediately as the main actor and rescuer of the goalless draw at FC Augsburg after his six-week injury break due to a shin injury. Because actually everything had looked at the Eintracht that the 22 -year -old Brazilian Kauã Santos Trapp had replaced the number one. But then Kauã Santos tore off the cruciate ligament in the quarter -finals of the Europa League against Tottenham last Thursday and probably said goodbye to sick leave for at least half a year.
Suddenly, Trapp’s services are in demand again – and then earlier than intended. After just a few days in team training, the former national goalkeeper stood in the Frankfurt box. Throughout the game, the returnee did very well and in the scene against Tietz “outstanding”, as Krösche called it. The sports director said: »This is the quality that Kevin has. Keeping this ball in such a situation is important to simply have the backing – and it was today. «
It is a reasonably curious situation that Eintracht got into. There had been speculation about Trapp’s farewell at the end of the season. Now he is supposed to contribute to the qualification for the Champions League in the four Bundesliga games against Leipzig, Mainz, against St. Pauli and Freiburg. Whether the 34-year-old remains important for the current third in the table and that he can even add a very special chapter at the SGE in the coming season, then in Europe’s most important club competition.
Trapp’s contract runs until mid -2026. But even whether he can remain the preliminary number one even after the summer break, at least to Kauã Santos’ recovery does not seem to be quite clear. In any case, Krösche denied when asked whether he had already thought about the long -term handling of the failure of Kauã santos. “First of all, it’s just about this season,” said Krösche, adding: “We are glad that Kevin is back and that he did his performance.”
With a win on the coming matchday at home against RB Leipzig, Toppmöller’s team would take a big step closer to their goal. A performance as in the first half in Augsburg three days after the end of the Europa League should not be enough. The so-called XGOALS value, which expresses the probability of a score achieved, amounted to exactly 0.0 at Eintracht after the first round.
This was also not surprising because the Frankfurters had not shot on the goal, the Augsburg seven times. In the second half, Eintracht had played much better and, like the FCA, had generated several major chances. The highlights were the post hit by Frankfurt’s Rasmus Kristensen and Augsburg’s Mërgim Berisha. And at the very end, the scene occurred in the trapp with a reflex and left hand of his class.
After that, the nine -time national goalkeeper initially spoke about the seriously injured colleague. “I am very sorry for chewing,” he said at DAZN. Only then did he talk about his return to the center. “I was allowed to stand again where I love to stand,” said the captain, “especially in the phase in which we are now to be able to help the team.” And added: “We can achieve something very, very big.” So for him it should go on at Eintracht – and maybe even beyond the summer.
