Hertha BSC fans have been hopeing for years that their club is finally qualifying for the final of the DFB Cup: After all, this year after year will take place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium-this year-this year hers Stadium. “If you are at home in the city where the final takes place, the incentive is great to make it there,” says coach Stefan Leitl. Now the hope that it will go to the final is more of a utopian; plays the Berlin Hertha in the 2nd Bundesliga and is still without a chance against large caliber from Munich, Dortmund or Frankfurt. And yet Hertha regularly managed to let this hope last for a while, at least to survive the first rounds of the trophy. The trip went to the quarter -finals two years ago, a year later in the round of 16.

Every now and then the fan scene was disappointed early. In two of the last five years, Hertha had to compete against Eintracht Braunschweig in the first round, each time second division, and lost. This Lospech as one of the few teams as one of the few teams directly against a club from the 2nd Bundesliga, while almost everyone else has to go against underclass opponents, the Berliners also chose this year: While the league competitors from Kaiserslautern, Bochum or Nuremberg meet regional and top division, Hertha has to go to the table-15. The last second division season, Prussia Münster. “I think there is no heavier lot,” Leitz said at the press conference before the game.

But not only the opponent raises doubts about a good performance this year. Despite everything, Hertha goes into the duel against the Westphalia as a clear favorite, but the previous services were sobering. One goal and a point from the first two league games are too little – the fans are angry with their team’s appearances. After referee Sören Stork ended the 0-0 draw in the home game against Karlsruher SC, the fans did the same: they whistled.

Lack of quality on the wings

Why is it? Trainer Stefan Leitl’s 5-2-3 system with two wing defenders and a ten behind the two tips combines a compact defensive with a variable offensive in the theory, in which danger can arise from both wings and the middle. Especially in the attack, the team was not yet able to put this into practice – because they have two major problems.

The wing positions lack quality: Julian Eitschberger did not make a good impression in the opening game of the 2nd Bundesliga on the right and was replaced against Karlsruhe by Deyovaisio Zeefuik a week later. It was not negative and is a reliable player – however, the Dutch is actually intended for the position as a right central defender. On the left, Michal Karbownik started against Schalke and simply played badly – a week later he was also injured. His replacement Martin Winkler has the physical prerequisites for the wing position, but by no means the technical skills it takes to ensure moments of surprise through quick wing changes.

Since there is hardly any danger due to quality, the offensive around star player Fabian Reese is a duty. But he and his colleagues still have to prove that they can play together. Hertha has a strong offensive Nominalll: In addition to Reese, David Kownacki, who was one of the best strikers in the league in the previous season for Fortuna Düsseldorf, and behind the tops, top talent Maurice Krattenmacher, who was one of the few bright spots in the Hertha game. “You have two incredibly dangerous strikers and cannot manage to stage them,” said a tense Stefan Leitl at the press conference after the KSC game. The truth, however, includes: opponents can prepare that they will be dealing with them primarily; that Hertha is particularly trying to attack the middle.

It takes time

It is extremely difficult to ensure moments of surprise. Also because the Hertha offensive is hardly recorded. Against the KSC, the audience could watch their hopes of hope that they reacted exclusively to the actions of each other and did not act together. Practiced moves? Fire: “We need a few more days before you have found yourself,” said Leitl after the game. The greatest danger in the game was therefore not surprising from a single campaign when Maurice Krattenmacher played several opponents and balanced the ball on the crossbar. The coach supposedly said that a journalist’s demand whether Reese would not be better suited for another position: “Fabi made eleven games in the position last season and scored ten goals.”

In the trophy against Münster, great pressure on the players is already bursting early in the season. With a further defeat and an early end in the cup, Hertha would have put a real false start. The Hertha was not granted a subclass opponent against which the strikers could have been shooting warm. Rather, you can expect a difficult away game at Prussia Münster.

One who now gives them hope is Kenneth Eichhorn. The defensive midfielder only turned 16 three weeks ago, but showed no start -up difficulties in his second division debut, demanded Balls and was able to keep up with his opponents. “He is a huge talent, it speaks for him that in a phase in which it does not run that way when six six comes into play. I’m super satisfied with him, ”said Leitl about him. Could he even start in Münster? “Every player who is in the squad is also an option for the starting eleven,” said Leitl. At the start of the home game on Sunday, Eichhorn would have been an option that he thought about. It is therefore easy to imagine that he will also be seen in the field against Münster. Then his colleagues have to get going slowly.
