Don’t cry when the decision is made: Düsseldorf has to continue playing second-class

Football is finally back – the new season of the Second League begins this weekend. It is the championship of the traditional clubs from old times: Cologne, Nuremberg, Schalke, Hertha, Magdeburg (as the only eastern club), Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, HSV, Braunschweig; Yes, even Preußen Münster, a founding member of the Bundesliga, is there, for the first time since 1991. And Düsseldorf, after they lost so heartbreakingly in relegation in the spring (photo), in a penalty shootout against Bochum – another club that is considered the parent club of the second division can. Just like the relegated Darmstadt, who have had a year of first class that was as depressed as they had no chances.
HSV is now entering its seventh year in the lower house. Maybe that’s a sign? On his Wikipedia page, a subchapter is realistically called “Present in the Second Class.” Anyone who lands there has a bit of a list and is usually more cheerful.
Some people think that the second division is the nicer first division. No Bavaria, no RB and no Bayer whose financial power keeps the others down; The top is wider, the football is rougher, the memories are sweeter: of the would, would, could and still of the past, even if it is rather cute, like the one and only Bundesliga non-relegation to 14th place as the highlight of the Darmstadt club’s history.
On the other hand: put second-class status into perspective. You perceive your vacation trip as second-class, are seen as second choice at work, as well as in your romantic relationship, and think that you only play second fiddle to your siblings to your parents. That’s already less romantic and the best is no longer good enough. It doesn’t matter – as long as you don’t have to become third rate.
