The 79th Lower Austria farm pilgrimage in Mariazell came to an end on Sunday. Farmersbund chairman LH-StV. Dr. In his speech, Stephan Pernkopf was particularly referring to the this year’s pilgrimage motto “appreciation”: “We get up from love for the country every day, take responsibility and we carry our country together through all storms. This pilgrimage is a source of strength and a place of gratitude for our homeland and for everything we have built together. Now it is up to us to shape our future with courage.”
Gratitude and appreciation
Pernkopf also dedicated a large part of his pilgrimage to the events around the devastating flood in Lower Austria and thanked emergency services, from the fire brigades of Lower Austria, the Federal Army and everyone who helped in these difficult times: “They showed us all, the whole country, what it means to be there for each other.”
Special thanks went to all volunteers who made it possible to carry out the pilgrimage. The rural youth in Lower Austria, the farmers and Abbot Pius Maurer from Lilienfeld for the celebration of the Holy Mass on Sunday.
View of 120 years of Lower Austria Bauernbund
The Lower Austria Bauernbund will celebrate its 120th anniversary in the coming year. Pernkopf uses the pilgrim approach to remind you of the associated responsibility: “Our tradition is strong, our present is challenging, our future is in our hands. We do not work for quick applause, we work out of love for the country and love for the people who live in this country. We strain together for our wonderful home in Lower Austria.”
The promise of Figl and Reither
During their captivity, Leopold Figl and Josef Reither swore to Mariazell together with the farmers together with the farmers as soon as Austria would be free from the terror of the Nazi regime. This promise was redeemed after the end of the Second World War and has been continued year after year.
This promise will be redeemed for the 80th time next year. The 80th Lower Austria Bauernbund pilgrimage will take place from September 19th to 20th, 2026.
