St. Pölten (OTS) Over 1,000 women farmers from all over Austria came together in Villach in Carinthia for the Federal Women Farmers’ Day. Under the motto “Being a farmer – more diverse than ever” the participants exchanged their thoughts on current challenges in agriculture. With informative presentations from freedom that begins with financial independence to start-up farms and the positive power of body language. Because economic survival in agriculture requires creative and diverse innovation. Young farmer Katja Strauss lives out this creativity at Sonnhof in the Carinthian municipality of Magdalensberg. At the age of 17, she started direct marketing organic chickens and organic turkeys on her parents’ part-time farm. Today, at the age of 23, she has established her own brand full-time and is already thinking about other sectors of the economy.

Further topics from “Land and People” on April 20th

*Energy subsidies for farms
Together with farmers, the Climate and Energy Fund develops measures to achieve optimal energy efficiency in agriculture. With funding for technology and robotics, for example, which helps the farmer Thomas Lerchbaum from Mauern in western Styria to save costs.

*Plant protection service for farmers
In order to counteract plant pests such as the wireworm, the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture offers a plant protection warning service. In this way, farmers can take targeted plant protection measures while saving costs and protecting the environment, as shown at the test field in Wieselburg in Lower Austria.

*Smile together
This year, the SVS health insurance company is keeping an eye on your teeth and is promoting six-monthly check-ups at the dentist with the Health Hundred. In Linz and Gunskirchen in Upper Austria, we support farmers with their inspections.

*Get to know the “pepper”.
During the Weinviertel wine tour, over 200 winemakers open their doors and invite you to taste the new vintages. Of course, the peppery Grüner Veltliner Weinviertel DAC is in the foreground. In Röschitz we accompanied the wine tourists to the winemakers.
