FLATZ. Physical Machine

The OK Linz shows a cross -section of Wolfgang Flatz’s work (born 1952 in Dornbirn/VBG). Flatz is one of the most extraordinary artists of the present. His work includes almost all genres and media: From jewelry to mobile sculptures to performative work, Flatz ‘work is an exploration of the possibilities of artistic design. He tackles, questions and dissects the developments of our time as well as the individual, who is insoluble in it. The central starting point is the human body that is brought to limits or expanded by different means.

The artist Flatz designed himself very early as a total work of art. In the 1980s, he decided to stage himself as a brand. This becomes clear when his name is changed by Wolfgang Flatz to the Flatz brand written in capital letters. His self -designed jewelry and the conceptual wearing of tattoos can also be interpreted in this context. With one of his tattoos, he describes himself as “Physical Sculpture No.0” and thus declares himself a work of art and his body the origin of his work.

Flatz ‘works are shaped by a deep examination of human perception and the way we interpret our environment. On voestalpine open space The temporary installation “end time” can be seen above the roofs of the OK, which was specially developed for this location. The installation presents a dystopian landscape that contains relics of human civilization. Flatz takes up moments of cinematic popular culture and transforms mobile objects – motorcycles and cars – into dystopian artifacts that are reminiscent of films like Mad Max and play with a post -apocalyptic aesthetics.

In autumn 2025 a four -volume list of works, its first presentation will be published
