Fitch confirms “AA-” rating for Wiener Stadtwerke and Wien Energie

Weinelt and Fuchs: Excellent creditworthiness is the basis for achieving the climate goal – municipal utilities as a central economic factor for the Vienna metropolitan region

Vienna (OTS) The international rating agency Fitch has confirmed the stable rating of “AA-” for Wiener Stadtwerke and Wien Energie. General Director Peter Weinelt and Deputy General Director Roman Fuchs: “The company’s excellent credit rating enables us to finance our future investments and is therefore the basis for achieving the climate goal.“Wiener Stadtwerke will invest almost 9 billion euros in the expansion of the infrastructure in the greater Vienna area over the next five years, over 90% of which will be in climate-friendly projects in the areas of energy and public mobility.

Wiener Stadtwerke has very good access to loan financing due to its good financial indicators, stable, very good rating, but also the fact that it is 100% owned by the City of Vienna. Likewise, Wiener Stadtwerke and its services are an important part of Vienna’s infrastructure and therefore operate in a business environment that is essential for the city of Vienna and its residents today and in the future. The climate strategy is increasingly being financed via green financing lines.

General Director Weinelt: “People need security, especially in uncertain times. With a stable financial foundation, we ensure that the projects run, that Vienna’s infrastructure is maintained at a top level and that pioneering projects are implemented at the same time – from the construction of new subway lines to network expansion to the hydrogen strategy.
