First premium resort in the Weinviertel: Ten new Silent Villas opened in the Laa thermal resort

  • VAMED Vitality World is expanding the successful Silent SPA in Laa to include overnight accommodation in a new category

  • LH Mikl-Leitner: “Next chapter in the success story of the largest tourism magnet in Lower Austria”

  • Klaus Hofmann, Managing Director of VAMED Vitality World, expects 3,000 additional overnight stays and strong impulses for Lower Austria tourism

The Weinviertel is expanding its overnight accommodation options for guests from Austria and neighboring countries. In less than twelve months, the VAMED Vitality World in the Laa thermal resort has created an exclusive refuge consisting of ten new villas with their own SPA, private lake access and individual service. The new offer is called Silent Villas and is the first accommodation in the premium segment in the Weinviertel. In total, VAMED has invested around 100 million euros (at current prices) in the Laa thermal resort since it opened. On Monday, Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner officially opened the Silent Villas.

“Since its opening in 2002, the Laa thermal resort has brought more than seven million guests to the Weinviertel. This means that Laa an der Thaya is already the country’s biggest tourist magnet – even for guests with higher demands. By offering appropriate overnight stays, we now have the chance that these guests will spend several days in this beautiful tourist region in the future, thereby creating the basis for new jobs,” says Mikl-Leitner.

Sixth expansion step for the Laa thermal resort – resort grows by 12,000 m2

The Silent Villas are already the sixth expansion step of the Laa thermal resort. The thermal resort has thus grown by a further 12,000 square meters – for State Governor Mikl-Leitner “the next chapter of a great success story in regional development and a further impetus for the region’s tourism future”.

Klaus Hofmann, Managing Director of VAMED Vitality World, assumes that the new Silent Villas will generate more than 3,000 additional overnight stays annually from guests from Austria and neighboring countries in a new, wealthy guest segment. “We are thus providing further strong impetus for tourism in Lower Austria,” says Hofmann.

More than 40 million euros in added value and 700 jobs for the region

As the largest wine-growing region in Austria and an up-and-coming Euregio cultural area in the heart of Europe along the historic Amber Route, the northern Weinviertel has developed very successfully as a tourism region in recent years, thanks in part to the Laa thermal resort. Since 2002, the number of overnight stays in the municipality of Laa has increased more than sevenfold to 77,000 overnight stays.

The Laa thermal resort currently employs around 230 people, and the Silent Villas have created a further 15 jobs in the resort. In the surrounding region, the Laa thermal resort generates an annual total added value of more than 40 million euros and secures more than 700 direct and indirect jobs.

Vitality World brings a successful concept to the Weinviertel – high added value for the region

With Geinberg5, VAMED Vitality World has been successfully operating 21 SPA villas in Upper Austria for more than ten years. The Laa thermal resort is now bringing this successful concept to the northern Weinviertel with the Silent Villas.

“Experience has shown that guests we address with our SPA villas generate more than twice as much added value in the region than in hotel operations. If other companies use this lighthouse project for themselves and further premium offers are developed, the positive economic effect of the Silent Villas will multiply again,” emphasizes Hofmann.

The new Silent Villas – 100m2 for exclusive relaxation by the water

The starting point for the new Silent Villas is the Silent SPA, with which Therme Laa has been addressing the premium segment as a day SPA since 2016 and in which the thermal resort alone welcomes more than 150,000 day guests every year. The concept of the Silent SPA, as well as the Silent Villas, is entirely in keeping with the Lower Austrian monastery tradition. The connecting architectural element is the “Gothic tracery”, an ornament made up of geometric shapes of the highest precision. The Laa thermal resort has created a space of simple elegance for individual retreat and relaxation.

The Silent Villas are designed as hermitages of the Silent SPA – in the immediate vicinity right on the water with a view of the countryside. Each of the 100 square meter villas, including a covered terrace, has elegantly furnished sleeping, relaxation and living areas with an open fireplace, a private spa with sauna, emotional shower and free-standing bathtub, an outdoor whirlpool and private lake access. “Our guests can be completely alone and in nature for several days without having to forego the amenities of the adjacent 4* superior resort,” says Thomas Hattenberger, managing director of the Laa Thermenresort.

The Laa thermal resort has put together a tailor-made wellness and relaxation offer with high-quality treatments for the guests of the Silent Villas. In terms of cuisine, there are two exclusive “Silent Séparées” available as an à la carte pop-up theme restaurant in the Therme Laa hotel, concierge service and an in-room dining offer, arranged in your own villa for the greatest possible retreat and freedom.

New family oases in the thermal garden – focus on regionality

As part of the sixth expansion stage, the Laa thermal resort has redesigned the thermal spa gardens in addition to the Silent Villas. The green areas were renatured with particular attention to supporting biodiversity in the region and new, natural family oases were also created. In addition, the thermal garden now has underground irrigation, which significantly reduces water consumption.

The Laa thermal resort covers its entire energy needs from renewable energy sources. When designing the villas, VAMED Vitality World paid attention to the use of natural materials and worked almost exclusively with regional partners. Overall, around 90 percent of the added value was sustainably invested in Lower Austria, 85 percent of it directly in the Weinviertel.

About the Laa thermal baths

The Laa thermal resort is one of six resorts in the VAMED Vitality World – the number one in Austrian thermal and health tourism. The first milestone after the thermal baths opened in 2002 was the opening of the 4* superior hotel with its 122 modern rooms and suites in 2005. The hotel was further modernized at the beginning of 2020 – since then the “SILENT CLUB Floor” has been all about healthy sleep. In 2016, the wellness resort was expanded to include Lower Austria’s first premium day spa – the Silent Spa. This has been recognized with a total of 13 national and international industry awards since 2017. A new adult-only hideaway in the premium segment is currently being built with ten luxurious, very private Silent Villas – directly next to an in-house swimming pond. Complete relaxation, undisturbed peace and maximum exclusivity await guests here from August 2, 2024.
