Financial police discover around half a million euros in tax arrears
Vienna (OTS) –

In a joint operation led by the regional traffic department of the Tyrol State Police Directorate, the financial police in the anti-fraud office and the Austrian customs office carried out a joint traffic focus in the greater Innsbruck area on December 10th. The main focus was on controlling parcel deliverers.

The 20 financial police officers checked a total of 47 companies with 60 employees and discovered eight violations: three people were employed without a permit under the Foreign Employment Act, three were not even registered for social security. These violations were reported to the district administration authority. In addition, two further violations were identified under the Wage and Social Dumping Act because a foreign company was unable to provide evidence of proper posting to Austria.

In total, the financial police requested administrative fines of around 10,000 euros. In addition, 12 companies were found to have enforceable tax arrears totaling over 460,000 euros. These are now brought to the clients by the financial police with the help of seizures of debts.

Especially during the stressful Christmas season, neither employee rights nor road safety should be left behind. The excellent inter-agency cooperation between the financial police, customs and police ensures that violations are punished quickly and grievances are remedied“, said Finance Minister Gunter Mayr.

During the concerted focus campaign, customs also identified several violations of the Goods Transport Act and punished the violations on site using the relevant executive mandates.

The police subjected over 60 small vans and their drivers to traffic control checks. A total of 84 reports had to be made to the authorities and 34 mandates had to be filed. Two male and female drivers are reported on suspicion of drug impairment: their driver’s licenses have been temporarily revoked.

A technical inspection was requested from the state test hall for seven vehicles. One vehicle had to have its registration canceled on site and its license plates removed. A total of nine drivers were temporarily prohibited from continuing their journey until the legal condition was established (overloading, technical condition, etc.).

The results of the alcohol controls were positive. A total of 62 tests were carried out, all of which were negative. None of the drivers were drunk.
