Derek Hartman from the USA (piano concert No. 4), Martin Nöbauer from Austria (piano concert No. 3) and Jonas Stark from Germany (piano concert No. 4) were able to convince the top-class jury of the competition in two exciting live rounds. The three young talents now appear in the final on May 24, 2025 in front of the jury and audience in Musikverein Vienna to win the renowned award and a Bösendorfer concert grand piano with their interpretations from the piano work Ludwig van Beethoven.

To participate in 17. International Beethoven Piano competition Vienna have registered over 300 talents from 32 nations. After a pre-selection and an online video round, 21 outstanding young pianists were selected by the International Jury, who were once again chaired by Jan Jiracek von Arnim in two live rounds.

The Finale takes place in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna. The three young talents are accompanied by the Viennese symphonists Under the direction of Petr Popelka.

About the competition
The international Beethoven piano competition in Vienna will take place for the 17th time in May 2025. With its long tradition and unique restriction to Beethoven’s piano work, it is one of the most renowned and leading piano competitions worldwide. He has been organized and carried out by the MDW University of Music and Performing Art Vienna for more than 60 years and also proves the leading role of the MDW in continuing a special Viennese Beethoven piano tradition. The previous winners include Mitsuko Uchida, Stefan Vladar and Jasminka Stančul.
