Fight neglect and break through the circulation

Negotiation is one of the most common and yet commonly overlooked threats to the well -being of a child. In contrast to child suspensions, neglect is often unnoticed and leads to children in a cycle of chronic emotional damage, lost trust and long -term development problems.

During a recent visit to SOS Children’s Village Portugal in Lisbon, the Vantage Foundation met with corporate fundraising coordinator Teresa ConceIção and Brand and Communication Lead Emerson Marques in order to discuss the 60-year commitment of the organization for the protection of children who were neglected, left or abandoned.

In Portugal, a child grows every ten minutes without the support it takes to find their way around the world – many of them are neglected over generations. Since neglect is less visible than other forms of injury, it often evades the intervention from the outside, so that the children suffer a still, long -lasting trauma. SOS Children’s Village Portugal is working on breaking this cycle through prevention, protection and lobbying to ensure that no child is left behind.

Neglect is more than just a lack of care – it is a creeping hollowing out trust with devastating effects on mental health and development. Children who are neglected often suffer from emotional problems, binding disorders and difficulties to build healthy relationships. If it is not intervened, the circulation of neglect continues, and the families concerned are partly caught in it for generations.

SOS Children’s Village Portugal fights neglect at the root by strengthening families through education, psychological care and emergency aid. By tackling systemic problems at an early stage, it helps to prevent families from breaking apart and reduce the need for care outside the parents’ house.

If a separation from the family is inevitable, the organization ensures that the children in a caring environment receive high -quality care. This means that siblings stay together that the care is tailored to individual needs and that supervisors receive special training in trauma -related practices. They are also committed to greater legal protection for young people who leave the care in order to give them the opportunity to build an independent life.

The Vantage Foundation is aware that a termination of neglect requires cooperation. Through cooperation with organizations such as SOS Children’s Village, companies, political decision-makers and municipalities can make the votes of children more heard in endangered situations and help to break through the cycle of neglect in families.

“The neglect of children is an profound, invisible and devastating problem,” emphasizes Emerson Marques, Brand and Communication Lead at SOS Children’s Village Portugal. “The quieter it is, the more dangerous it gets. The spread of this message is crucial to break through the cycle – we need more people who know the problem, interest themselves and take care. Only in this way can we make sure that no child grows up without the love, respect and security that deserves.”

“The work of SOS Children’s Village Portugal is really inspiring,” said Steven Xie, Executive Director of the Vantage Foundation. “It is proof of what is possible if we focus on the future of the children and underline the importance of collective action. Neglection is a silent crisis – but together we can get the problem out of the shade and cause real change.”

By approaching neglect directly, we can create a world in which every child grows up with love, respect and security.
