FH Salzburg starts study program for Realtime Art & Visual Effects in cooperation with Epic Games and SideFX

Salzburg/Puch-Urstein (OTS) The new English-language master’s degree program will start in October 2024 Realtime Art & Visual Effects* at the FH Salzburg (*preliminary approval). Talented people in the field of computer animation can now apply to take part in the pioneering program.

The uniqueness of this course of study is reflected in the intensive cooperation with leading companies in the global computer graphics industry. The new course was the first Austrian university to be accredited as an ‘Academic Partner’ of Epic Games right from the start. The US company is known as the developer of the Unreal game engine. The collaboration with the Canadian software company SideFX is just as close. The Salzburg University of Applied Sciences is one of a total of 6 universities in German-speaking countries that offer certified training for Houdini, the world’s leading 3D software from SideFX.

Training for future-oriented technologies

The curriculum of the master’s program combines creativity and technology and qualifies graduates to design a wide range of visual content using the most modern methods. This includes areas such as video game and film production, as well as innovative applications in sectors such as automotive, data visualization and digital twins. The speakers come from international industrial companies, such as: B. Trixter, RiseFX Visual Effects, Industrial Light & Magic, Epic Games, Pixomondo, DNEG and UBISOFT.

“The new offering bridges the game and film industries and focuses on teaching content that reflects current changes in visual content creation, particularly real-time and procedural workflows and generative AI. Students have the opportunity to focus on an individual research project under the intensive supervision of industry experts and to gain practical experience in professional productions,” explains course director Josef Schinwald.

Registration for Realtime Art & Visual Effects on Department Creative Technologies is possible now. The prerequisite for applying is the completion of a relevant bachelor’s degree and an impressive portfolio of creative work. The application deadline is May 15, 2024.
