FH Campus Vienna: Bettina Madleitner takes over as head of the Health and Nursing program

Vienna (OTS) Since the beginning of the year, FH Prof. Mag.a Bettina Madleitner has been responsible for the management of the Bachelor’s degree program in Health and Nursing. The qualified health and nursing nurse and nursing scientist has been bringing her extensive practical nursing experience into teaching and research for around 15 years and is the author of numerous specialist books and publications. Bettina Madleitner is taking over the management of the bachelor’s program from FH Prof. Mag.a Dr. Roswitha Engel, who has supported her as a representative in this role for five years.

Professional care puts people at the center

The Styrian native laid the foundation for her career at the General Health and Nursing School of the LKH-Univ. Graz Hospital. After completing her diploma, she worked there and later at the Vienna General Hospital and Hietzing Hospital in surgical departments and in intensive care settings. Additional training took place in the area of oncological nursing. Madleitner also devoted herself to this topic in her diploma thesis in nursing science at the University of Vienna, which she completed in 2009, and in other scientific research projects.

She has been passing on her specialist expertise as a teacher since 2007, initially at several health and nursing schools in Vienna and Styria. Bettina Madleitner has been teaching in the technical college sector, at the FH Campus Vienna, for almost 15 years – initially part-time, and since 2016 full-time. The FH professor gained management experience as the head of the akad. Health and Nursing course, practical mentoring and since 2019 as deputy course director of the Bachelor’s program in Health and Nursing. Due to the high number of students, this is divided into several areas, and she has been in charge of one of these areas for three years.

Advancing nursing science and teaching

Bettina Madleitner worked scientifically at the FH Campus Vienna, among other things, on the development of an app that supports caregivers of people with dementia. She also carried out research work on an app for quality assurance in 24-hour care. In addition to scientific publications, the expert writes numerous specialist books and focuses on nursing theories, the nursing process or methods that support caring in professional nursing. “The separation between theoretical content and practical requirements is artificial,” emphasizes Bettina Madleitner. “Rather, theories frame the field of nursing practice and sometimes provide direct impulses for action.”

Bettina Madleitner takes over the management role of the bachelor’s degree program from Roswitha Engel, who continues to be responsible for the entire range of courses in the Department of Applied Nursing Science.

Inspiring the next generation for the health and nursing profession

The FH Campus Vienna has been training health and nursing staff for senior service for over 15 years – in 2008 as the first FH in Austria. Graduates also gain professional qualifications with the title of Bachelor of Science in Health Studies. “Theoretical foundations, scientific findings and practice are the three pillars that optimally prepare our graduates for the diverse profession and for evidence-based professional nursing.”said Bettina Madleitner. “In addition to all the known stress factors and challenges, it is important to demonstrate the profession’s design options in a scientifically sound manner and also to demonstrate them credibly.”

The number of study places has been continuously increased thanks to cooperation with large providers of health and care facilities such as the Vienna Health Association, the Vienna Social Fund, the Vinzenz Group and the Nursing Academy of the Barmglücken Brüder Vienna – from winter semester 2024/25, around 850 beginners will start each academic year Studies, in total more than 2,500 students complete their bachelor’s degree every year.
