The FFG funding program “Emission-free Commercial Vehicles and Infrastructure (ENIN)” supports companies in converting their fleets

Vienna (OTS) A total of 45 million euros are available this time in the fourth round of tenders of the Climate Protection Ministry’s successful program. The funding program supports companies in converting their fleet to non-fossil-powered commercial vehicles (N1, N2 and N3) as well as in setting up the charging and refueling infrastructure required for these commercial vehicles. Submissions are possible until September 18, 2024. In the previous tender rounds, 203 million euros in funding were awarded for the purchase of over 4,200 emission-free commercial vehicles and the associated charging infrastructure. In addition to the EU funds from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the Climate Protection Ministry is making national funds available.

Innovation as a response to the challenge of decarbonization

“Promoting zero-emission commercial vehicles is an important step towards the decarbonization of road transport. In this funding program we see so many innovative and high-quality projects from the logistics industry but also numerous projects from the municipal sector. We want to continue to support this domestic innovative strength. By switching to zero-emission vehicle fleets, all projects are setting a strong example for sustainable mobility and making an important contribution to achieving our climate goals,” says the Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.

11,700 tons of CO2 savings in five years

An example of successful implementation is Österreichische Post AG. The transport sector offers Swiss Post the greatest potential for reducing CO2 emissions. Every year, around 4.3 billion items are delivered to 4.8 million households and companies in Austria. By converting 1,000 additional delivery vehicles to electric drive, the postal service expects to save over 11,700 tons of CO2 over the next five years. The last combustion engine in delivery is scheduled to be phased out by 2030. CO2-free delivery not only reduces emissions, but also pollutants and noise, which contributes to a higher quality of life in urban areas.

“We are pleased that Österreichische Post AG is taking another big step towards emission-free logistics with the support of the ENIN program. “This is an excellent example of how FFG funding programs can contribute to the market readiness of new technologies,” emphasizes Karin TauszManaging Director of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG.

About ENIN
The Climate Protection Ministry’s “Emission-free Commercial Vehicles and Infrastructure” funding program supports companies in converting their fleets to non-fossil-powered commercial vehicles and in setting up the necessary charging and refueling infrastructure. Through the EU Commission’s “Recovery and Resilience Facility” (RFF) and other national funds, Austria has a total of 365 million euros available until the end of 2025. The aim is to significantly accelerate the transition to emission-free commercial vehicles in Austria. The funding program thus contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conserving resources. In addition, the market ramp-up of these technologies is to be accelerated and the costs of these emission-free technologies are to be reduced in the medium term.
