Austria again in sixth place in the EU innovation ranking – Public R&D funding strengthens national innovative strength on the way to becoming an “Innovation Leader”
Vienna (OTS) – Austria has once again achieved impressive results in the “European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) 2024”. The country once again takes sixth place, confirming its position among the leading “Strong Innovators”. “This year too, Austria is above the EU average in ten out of twelve main indicators. Especially in the areas of ‘Attractive research system’, ‘Finance and support’ and ‘Innovators’,” says the FFG management Henrietta Egerth and Karin Tausz in a first analysis of the EU innovation ranking published today.
For the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG, this result is confirmation of its targeted funding measures and investments in the domestic research landscape. “Austria has an extremely strong innovation system. Public support for research and development as well as the innovative strength of Austrian companies remain at a high level. This is underlined by the EU Commission’s current assessment,” emphasize the FFG managing directors.
In order to further advance the promotion into the group of “Innovation Leaders”, the FFG focuses on tailor-made funding priorities. Investments are already being made in future-oriented key areas, including the financing of location-relevant cutting-edge research that is of strategic importance for the Austrian economy. “In order to convert the invested resources even more effectively into economic success, we attach particular importance to the implementation potential. “We therefore support the entire innovation process with our know-how,” explain the FFG managing directors. The goal remains to bring Austrian research to the top of Europe as an “innovation leader” in an international comparison.
