Festive “Christmas in Vienna 2023”: With Joyce DiDonato, Patricia Petibon, Lawrence Brownlee, Johannes Silberschneider and many others

Claire Levacher will be conducting the ORF RSO Vienna for the second time in the Wiener Konzerthaus – on December 23rd at 10 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) “Christmas in Vienna” will be celebrated again this year with classic and popular musical Christmas traditions from all over the world, performed by top-class international soloists, accompanied by the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Vienna Singing Academy as well as the Vienna Boys’ Choir and, for the first time, the Vienna Choir Girls. Like the traditional Christmas markets, Advent wreaths and Christmas cookies, the glittering event from the Vienna Konzerthaus has been part of the Advent season for three decades and enchants the audience – in the concert hall as well as on the ORF. On Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 10 p.m. on ORF 2, a recording will get you in the mood for the upcoming Christmas holidays. The festive concert can be heard on Radio Niederösterreich on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25th, at 8 p.m.

Internationally successful singers bring special musical tones with Christmas carols from their homeland. This year’s concert will see a reunion with the American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and her compatriot, the bel canto tenor Lawrence Brownlee. The French coloratura soprano Patricia Petibon is taking part for the first time this year and completes the trio of soloists.
The Vienna choir girls are also celebrating their “Christmas in Vienna” debut this winter. Further musical guests will be the Austrian dulcimer virtuoso Maria Ma, the British mezzo-soprano Anita Monserrat and the Ukrainian baritone Nikita Ivasechko. The Austrian actor Johannes Silberschneider rounds off the line-up of artists with literary accents. The French Claire Levacher will take over the musical direction for the second time.

The atmospheric musical program of “Christmas in Vienna 2023” extends from the classical repertoire to traditional songs from all over the world to popular international Christmas songs. In these challenging times, it’s not just about enjoying music, but above all about a feeling of peaceful coexistence.
The ORF TV direction is once again in the trusted hands of Felix Breisach.
