The Retz festival celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025 and is devoting itself to the topic of “femininity” this year. From July 10th to 27th, the audience can expect a multifaceted and inspiring cultural program with top -class international artists and innovative multimedia opera production.
A multimedia opera project: “Salome” reinterpreted
A central highlight of the festival is the multimedia staging of the baroque opera “SALOME“ by Antonio Maria Bononcini (premiere on July 11th) under the musical direction of Luca De Marchi. Die Swiss filmmaker Nicole Aebersold transforms the parish church of St. Stephan into an immersive multimedia stage. Together with the Israeli choreographer Jasmin AvissaR she develops a feminist perspective on the biblical story: “Salome was told from a male perspective for two thousand years. It is time to question this narrative style!” – Nicole Aebersold
The elaborate film recordings for this major artistic project are already running and, in the best tradition of the festival, binding numerous participants from the region.
Top -class concerts with international stars
The festival program also offers outstanding musical highlights:
- The internationally renowned altist Sarah mingardo opened the festival on July 10 with a festival concert in the Retzer Althof (musical direction Luca de Marchi, Ensemble Continuum Vienna).
- The Roman ensemble of the virtuoso harpsichord Elisabetta Guglielmin – „Aimart Antico “- celebrates its Austria debut in the historic town hall of Retz on July 12th.
- The Italian soprano presented Sandra Foschiatto And the Pandolfis Consort Vienna The rarely played original version of the “Unknown“By Luigi Boccherini, whose 220th anniversary of death this year.
New festival format Retzitative: premiere of Susanna Ridler
The Austrian composer and vocalist Susanna rows designed on July 26th the premiere of the order composition Helena Adlers Text „Grub“, Interpreted by your women’s quartet VoCe+. This opens the new festival format Retizativewhich focuses on innovative music and literature projects.
Already on July 24th she designed with the historian Andrea Griesebner A “Female Lecture” on the topic “Marriages in court – once and now“ – Suitable for the thematic bracket of this year’s festival.
