Federal Association of Photovoltaic Austria is pushing for a modern E-Commerce Act (ElWG)

Electricity grids are not able to handle the expansion of renewables under the current conditions

Vienna (OTS) Vera Immitzer, managing director of the Federal Association of Photovoltaic Austria (PV Austria), describes the fact that, despite repeated announcements, no modern E-Commerce Act (ElWG) has been submitted for assessment to date as an “unacceptable delay”. “The government is on the brakes when it comes to modern legal frameworks. This has been apparent for years: Renewables are on a good expansion path, but the networks are lagging behind. We see holding out for a modern e-commerce law as an intolerable delay“, says Vera Immitzer, Managing Director of the Federal Association of Photovoltaic Austria.

ElWG delay inhibits the potential of renewables

By 2030, an additional 39 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity should be generated from renewable energies, but the grid capacity is too low. Grid bottlenecks in Upper Austria that recently became known in the media have shown that the power grid cannot cope with the additional load under the current conditions. “The delays in the ElWG are hindering the industry and the potential to fully exploit renewable energies,” says Immitzer and emphasizes: “The PV industry is prepared to make its contribution. Now we need clear, binding and modern laws to make progress in expanding renewables!
