Federal Army: Brigadier Georg Härtinger takes command of the Lower Austria military command

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Brigadier Georg Härtinger took command of the Lower Austria Military Command as part of a military ceremony. The handover of the flag – which symbolizes the assumption of command – was carried out by Colonel Michael Lippert in the presence of Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner, State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and numerous guests and guests of honor.

Brigadier Georg Härtinger – born in 1966 in St. Pölten – retired from the Theresian Military Academy in 1990 as a lieutenant in the infantry. He then worked in various positions in the Mautern garrison for 33 years. These ranged from platoon and company commander, to being a staff officer of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade, to commander of the 3rd Staff Battalion, which he led from 2019 to 2023. Brigadier Härtinger then worked in the Communications Directorate at the Federal Ministry of Defense. During his career, Brigadier Georg Härtinger has completed numerous training courses, including the “Security Management” course with a university character in 2007 and 2008 and the technical college master’s program “Military Leadership” in 2018. Brigadier Härtinger looks back on numerous missions at home and abroad, including securing the state border during the Yugoslavian War in 1991 as well as several missions in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina. On October 1, 2024, Brigadier Georg Härtinger took over the role of military commander of Lower Austria.

Colonel Michael Lippert – born in Innsbruck in 1964 – retired from the Theresian Military Academy in 1993 as a lieutenant. He then worked as a technical officer for Panzer Battalion 10 in Spratzern for five years. In 1998, Colonel Lippert moved to the 3rd Panzer Staff Battalion in Mautern. After serving in the brigade command of the 3rd Panzergrenadier Brigade, Colonel Michael Lippert became commander of the Panzerstabsbataillon 3 in 2010, which he led until the end of May 2019. On June 1, 2019, he became deputy military commander of Lower Austria. From November 2022 to the end of September 2024, Colonel Michael Lippert was also in charge of the Lower Austria Military Command.

The Lower Austria Military Command is responsible for carrying out all civil-military cooperation and representative tasks in Lower Austria. It ensures the territorial support of all troops and the operation of the military infrastructure in Lower Austria. If necessary, the military command carries out assistance missions in Lower Austria and, as a military authority, ensures the position and complement. The seat of the Lower Austria military command is the state capital St. Pölten.
