Fear of blackout despite stable networks

Berlin (OTS) –

Despite one of the most reliable power grids worldwide, many people in Germany are afraid of a long -lasting power failure. According to a representative survey by the opinion research institute Civey on behalf of the energy technology provider Trench Group, 81 percent of those surveyed hold a large -scale power failure for the most serious risk of infrastructure – well before disorders of water supply (63 percent) or failures in hospitals and emergency services (50 percent).

People feel particularly serious consequences such as the failure of food cooling (65 percent), problems with water supply (49 percent) and lack of heating (33 percent). At the same time, around a quarter of the respondents (27 percent) estimate the probability of such a scenario within the next twelve months as realistic – despite demonstrably very low actual downtimes in Germany.

“The fear that shows itself in our survey is the result of current events, such as the power outages at London-Heathrow Airport and on the Iberian Peninsula in the spring. People feel that the strokes come closer,” said Bahadir Basdere, CEO of the Trench Group. “People are absolutely right with the fact that a long -lasting power failure is the most serious infrastructure risk. Little went without electricity in the past, today almost nothing works.

The Trench Group also sees a clear mission in public perception: “At the moment, the German electricity grids are not able to cope with the planned expansion of renewable energies. The answer to this can only be expanded – and not to slow down the expansion of renewable. The HÜ and Hott in politics is not good for society,” emphasized Basder.

The survey was carried out among 5,000 citizens from the age of 18 from July 28th to 30th, 2025.
