Farmers’ Association mourns Hans Seitinger

Agriculture Minister Totschnig, LK President Moosbrugger, Farmers’ Association President Strasser and Farmers’ Association Director Süß express their deep condolences

Vienna (OTS) The long-standing Styrian agricultural councilor Hans Seitinger died on July 14, 2024 after a serious illness at the age of 64. As Austria’s longest-serving agricultural state councilor, Seitinger was responsible for the agricultural and forestry agendas in Styria for 20 years before announcing his resignation for health reasons in autumn 2023.

Farmers’ Association President Abg.z. NR DI Georg Strasser and Farmers’ Association Director Ing. Mag. David Sweet express their sadness over the death of Hans Seitinger: “With him, Styria, but also the farmers’ association, has lost a personality who was always a contact and fighter for the concerns of the farming population and rural areas. Hans Seitinger was a politician with the ability to shake hands, an attentive listener with an always open ear for Styrians. As Styria’s agricultural councilor, he was rightly very popular and campaigned vehemently and emphatically for the farmers. He leaves a big gap and will always be fondly remembered. We wish his family a lot of strength during this difficult time.”

Minister of Agriculture Norbert Totschnig expresses its condolences to Hans Seitinger’s family: “It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to a great agricultural politician. Throughout his life, Hans Seitinger was always passionately committed to agriculture and Styria politically. I got to know and appreciate him as a down-to-earth, competent and forward-looking person. He has always placed the well-being of the population, especially that of the farmers, at the center of his work. Whether strengthening family farms, affordable housing or water management in communities: he has shaped future-oriented politics. I owe him a great debt of gratitude. My thoughts are with his family, loved ones and friends.”

Also President of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture Josef Moosbrugger is deeply affected by Seitinger’s death: “Hans Seitinger was an agricultural politician who always represented the concerns and interests of Styrian farmers and foresters with full commitment and passion, but also always kept an eye on larger contexts. He was proud of his farming origins, which he saw as motivation and mission for his many years of challenging work. Hans Seitinger was always aware of his responsibility for the many farming families and assumed this responsibility with conviction and hard personal commitment. He was a politician with a high level of professional competence and handshake quality. And despite all the challenges, he never lost his sense of humor. He enjoyed being around people and was always seen as a connector, never a divider. On behalf of all farmers, I express my deepest respect and thanks to Seitinger and his family.”

Hans Seitinger, son of a mountain farming family from the Mürztal, held a variety of political functions during his career and, among other things, served as a local councilor in his home community of Frauenberg for seven years, as deputy mayor for five years and finally as mayor for four years. From 2006 until his resignation, he held the office of district party chairman of the ÖVP Bruck an der Mur and the ÖVP Bruck-Mürzzuschlag; from 2013 to 2023 he was chairman of the Styrian Farmers’ Association.
