The northern Waldviertel is blessed with extraordinary wetlands, a real hotspot is the municipality of Schrems. It is based, among other things, the largest pond in Austria and the raised bog and a huge nature park. The bog bath, which opens its gates on August 15 from 10:00 a.m., also feeds from its sources to welcome people from all over the Waldviertel.
In cooperation with Común, the municipality of Schrems also sets the first public activity in the course of the process “Wetland City Schrems 2028“. By 2028, the city would like to become the first“ Wetland City ”in the entire German -speaking area, an international award that has only been able to achieve 72 cities worldwide. The foundation is awareness of consciousness through the wetlands in the region.
Family festival: playfully informative
At the first family festival under the motto “Wunderwelt Wasser”, all children and parents are therefore invited to inform themselves about wetlands and to spend a nice summer day in the middle of the Schrems natural treasure. In a playful way, facts about wetlands such as Moore, Auen & Co are conveyed and children are particularly enthusiastic about their preservation.
In this sense, numerous stations await guests, including archery and boating, but also knowledge stations in the adjacent underwater kingdom. In addition, children can complete a puzzle rally of the Hakuna Association with professional references on the subject of wetlands and thus automatically qualify for the big raffle with Mayor David Süß.
Application for “Wetland City” meet life
Mayor David Süß and “Wetland City” coordinator Sebastian Bohrn Mena look forward to the opportunity to exchange ideas at the festival: “An important basis for the international accreditation of Schrems as the first ‘Wetland City’ in the entire German -speaking area is also the awareness of the local people that we have to preserve these wetlands. This is exactly what this festival is about.
For us, the focus is on the community in the region, which enjoys its natural treasures and thinks together about what they can contribute to their long -term preservation. We deliberately start with the children. Because the bogs are particularly important for our descendants. The family festival is a wonderful starting point for the many activities by 2028.“
