St. Pölten (OTS) – Long dry periods, intense heat, climate change – these factors also bring changes in cultivation for orchards and gardens in general. “Land and People” shows how shrubs and trees in Burgenland that were considered exotic here are now also thriving in our latitudes: such as pomegranates, pistachios and olives. We visit gardeners and garden pioneers in Neusiedl am See and Pamhagen. For example, persimmon fruits, various types of figs, black mulberries and cork trees grow in their gardens. The new Pannonian style is a further development of the traditional cottage gardens with plants from the Mediterranean region that survive heat, drought and also the winter well. They come from steppes and semi-deserts and may be of interest to other regions.

In Schweiggers in the Waldviertel, we will find out how it is possible to provide yourself with a lot of things in your own garden or even on your balcony all year round using the example of permaculture.
