“Everything has his time – that’s how it is in the Bible,” says Constantin Schreiber and leaves the “Tagesschau”

With the “Tagesschau”, the ARD flagship, it is also one thing: the older you get, the worse it seems to be. Too much is repeated. It’s similar to music or sport. Again and again Beatles, Rolling Stones or Madonna and anxious (music) or again and again Bavaria, Real or Inter (Sport). On the “Tagesschau”: Again and again the USA, Russia, Middle East, embedded in the capitalist permanent crisis.

It is strange that you also have the feeling with the fast news that they returned in cycles. That makes such a program lame and depressing. This is not because you become a age -conservative, as is often the case. When I was still young and left -wing, this show seemed much better to me.

Constantin Schreiber may be conservative, but you don’t know exactly because he doesn’t talk about it. No, he speaks the news in the “Tagesschau” since 2017. But now the 45-year-old is coming to an end on May 25th. “Everything has his time – that’s how it is in the Bible,” he says.

He already had a life in front of the “Tagesschau”: Schreiber was a journalist at Deutsche Welle and NTV and reported on the Middle East, because he can speak Arabic. However, he became famous at the “Tagesschau” through his part -time jobs in Islam criticism, which had nothing to do with it, but were certainly supported by his prominence as a spokesman.

In 2017, special attention attracted his TV report on the Friday prayers in German mosques and the subsequent books about Islam and Islamism. That had something in Germany, but do you have to defend these and other religions because you have learned it in religious education? Faith does not mean knowledge, the left around 1968 said.

From Schreiber, however, the right -wing radicals from the “young freedom” (but also the so -called liberals of “Tagesspiegel”, “Zeit” and “Hamburger Abendblatt”) were delighted when he published a novel in 2021 in which he presented himself how it would be if a Muslim was about to become Chancellor. The main character of “The Candidate” does not get it well: a policewoman committed an assassination attempt to save her because she wants to save old Germany, so to speak.

The book does not get it either, it is a kind of Michel Hoollebecq-Depri novel. »› The Candidate ‹is a political hate pamphlet that stirs up fear of migrants. The one described here is possible, it is almost at the door, is the humor -free message, ”the” taz “summarized the novel at the time. Compared to this, the “Tagesschau” seems okay again. What will your spokesman be the next “humor -free message”?
