Event and exhibition in the Hartheim Castle and memorial location
Alcoven (ots) –

The exhibition “On the edge of the Wienerwald. The Lebensborn in Feichtenbach ”will open on Friday, March 7, 2025 with a lecture, a video presentation and a panel discussion for the documentation dance theater“ Prélude: Lebensborn ”.

The Nazi team of Hartheim and the “Lebensborn” home Wienerwald in Feichtenbach (according to Pernitz/Lower Austria) were created for different purposes, but were both part of the racist population policy of the Nazi regime. The “Lebensborn” should prevent abortions of unmarried women. Only women who met the ideas of the SS were recorded. The “Lebensborn” supported them financially and tried to influence the upbringing of the children. From May 1940, Castle Hartheim was one of six killing institutions of the “Aktion T4”. By the end of 1944, around 30,000 people were murdered there – people with disabilities, mental illnesses, concentration camp prisoners and forced laborers: inside.

The hiking exhibition shows the history of the “Lebensborn” home in Feichtenbach. It is based on research by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for War Consequences Research and a participatory project. The processing has not yet been completed.

On the program of the opening:

A lecture deals with the connection between “Lebensborn” and NS “Children’s Authanasia” and illuminates biographies of murdered children.

The documentation dance theater “Prélude: Lebensborn” of the Anton Bruckner private university Linz transforms biographies and facts in motion and pictures. A panel discussion reflects the project, a video presentation provides insights into its creation.

The exhibition can be seen from March 8 to April 21, 2025 in the Sala Terrena of the Learning and Memorial Castle Hartheim. It is supplemented by an audio installation to combine “Lebensborn” and Nazi-Euthanasia as well as a video installation by Mag. Marlene Müller-Wanzenböck.

In the permanent exhibition “The value of life” invite you to think about the connections between “Lebensborn” and Nazi-Euthanasia.
