JJ represents Austria with his song “Wasted Love” at the “Eurovision Song Contest 2025”. In Basel, the Austrian-Philippine countertenor would like to take care of the big show moment in the first half of the second semifinal on May 15, 2025 and move into the final on May 17th.

The radio premiere of “Wasted Love” will take place on Thursday, March 6th, at 7.40 a.m. in the “Ö3-Wecker”. JJ in ORF 2 then introduces the video for the new ESC song in “Guten Morgen Austria” (8.20 a.m.). Today, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, JJ presented his song and the video in advance at a press event in the Gustav Mahler Hall of the Vienna State Opera in the presence of UA ORF program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, ORF entertainment head Martin Gastinger and ORF delegation manager Stefan Zechner.

The song and the video will be available on the official YouTube channel of the Eurovision Song Contest at www.youtube.com/eurovision song contest from tomorrow Thursday (March 6, 8:00 a.m.).

ORF program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz: “We have an extraordinary song and an extraordinary artist this year. JJ is an exceptional talent and a highly sympathetic and highly professional young man who will definitely notice the song contest. With ‘Wasted Love’ we can get a completely different style on stage again this year. I would like to thank the entire team for this – above all with our scouts Eberhard Forcher and Peter Schreiber. ”

“Wasted Love” was written by JJ together with Teya and Thomas Turner. JJ: “The song captures my experience with unrequited love perfectly. There is a special kind of heartache when you have so much love, but no place where it can arrive. It feels like driving on the sea on a fragile paper boat – cling to every glimmer of hope just to watch it dissolve under you. And yet there is something undeniable in this naive devotion. Because in the end it is nice to just be able to love – no matter how wasted ”.

In “Wasted Love” JJ combines his singing art as a counter tenor with pop and techno elements. He connects his classic roots with a modern artistic vision. The music video for “Wasted Love” reflects the sensitivity of the song. It was staged by director Marek Vesely in a Föhrenwald near Wiener Neustadt, in the city theater in Baden and in the I Dive diving school in Vienna, in which JJ dipped for underwater shots. In addition, a forest with a water surface and snow landscape was rebuilt in a studio in Lower Austria.

JJ about the Eurovision Song Contest: “The Song Contest has been a must for me since 2014. My family and I have looked at the ESC every year since Conchitas victory, ate together and discussed the candidate: inside. That brought us closer. ” And further: “It is a great honor for me to be able to represent Austria in Basel. My heart beats for the big show – and there is nothing bigger than the Eurovision Song Contest. ”
