An agricultural policy coup succeeded in the two -political coup for the two Lower Austrian farmers Alexander Bernhuber and Paul Nemecek at the Congress of the European People’s Party: After intensive negotiations and numerous discussions, the foundation of a European farmers’ association was fixed.
Supported by Austria’s Chancellor Christian Stocker and with a lot of support from Lower Austria, the initiative finally prevailed. EVP boss Manfred Weber, who was re-elected at the EPP congress, had a significant impact on success and supported the foundation.
For EU MP Alexander Bernhuber, who has received the official order to found the volunteer EU farmers’ association, this step represents a milestone: “With the help of this organization, we want to enforce the interests of farmers in Europe even better.”
Mitinitiator Lower Austria Bauernbund Director Paul Nemecek calls specific goals for the coming months: “We want to negotiate concrete measures for less bureaucracy and an import stop for food at EU standard.”
The establishment of the European Farmers’ Association is intended to strengthen the concerns of around ten million farms throughout the European Union. A step that gives Europe’s agriculture a new and united voice!
