European Week in Austria | European Parliament Liaison Office, May 9, 2024

Numerous events took place around Europe Day 2024 – also to draw attention to the European elections in exactly one month

Vienna (OTS) EU-Graffiti

The European Parliament’s liaison office in Austria celebrated today’s Europe Day 2024 with the presentation of the EU graffiti in Vienna. It is intended to remind citizens of their democratic rights and encourage them to vote.

The Austrian Vice Presidents of the European Parliament and the district leader of the 2nd district Alexander Nikolai welcomed the media representatives, content creators and activists from the cross-party democracy platform present gemeinsamfuer.eu.

“Go vote! This is our central message as the European Parliament. 70% of citizens think that the EU has an impact on their daily life. Of course, that doesn’t mean they agree with everything, but interest and participation are the backbone of our democracy. I am very pleased that this important message can now be accommodated on 350 square meters in Vienna,” said First Vice President Othmar Karas.

Vice President Evelyn Regner said: “In the year of the European elections, May 9th has a special meaning. Because a united and democratic Europe cannot be taken for granted. It was founded to ensure democracy and peace after two world wars. And this founding idea is more relevant today than ever. How the EU deals with the current challenges will be decided by hundreds of millions of voters in a month and will set the course for Europe’s future. That’s why we’re sending a clear message here today: Use your voice! Decide for yourself, otherwise others will do it for you!”

The mural project was created in cooperation with Wiener Wohnen and was implemented by artists from the Posse Studio. It extends over around 350 square meters on a wall of the Eveline-Andrlik-Hof on Engerthstrasse at the corner of Olympiaplatz, 1020 Vienna, and is intended to remain for at least five years.
