European Union has to solve the problems that members cannot cope with alone
Wien (PK) –

Vienna/Budapest (PK) – As part of the two -day conference, the President of the Parliament: Interior of the EU member states and the European Parliament, National Council President Walter Rosenkranz gave a speech on the future of the European Union on Monday. “It is crucial that the EU will actually be able to solve the big, existing problems that no state can handle alone,” he said in this context. There must be added value if something is regulated at European level, it emphasized the importance of the principle of subsidiarity. Federal Council President Andrea Eder-Gitschthaler emphasized the importance of Europe for the future in her speech.

In addition, National Council President Rosenkranz met with his counterparts from Italy, Lorenzo Fontana, from Estonia, Lauri Hussar, and from the Netherlands, Martin Bosma. Among other things, he addressed the respective bilateral and parliamentary relationships and the Russian attack war against Ukraine.

Rosary: No EU integration only for the sake of integration

As a supranational organization, the EU is neither a pure state network nor a state, said National Council President Walter Rosenkranz in his speech. There are different opinions about the question of whether or how far national skills should be submitted towards the European Union. It is certain that certain questions can only be solved together. For him, a collaboration at the EU level makes sense if it is visible and noticeably successful in the eyes of the people, Rosenkranz emphasized. EU integration only for the sake of integration is doomed to fail. Rather, the focus must be on the question of which integration steps can be achieved together and real added value. On the other hand, the question must also be asked which challenges should be better addressed by the individual EU member states. Here the hour of the national parliaments and their role in the subsidiarity test. It is “absolutely necessary” to always check new legislative proposals as to whether added value can be better manufactured by the EU legislator or the national levels, emphasized the National Council President. It is crucial whether the EU will actually be able to solve the large, existing problems that no state can handle alone.

Eder-Giftschthaler: Europe more important than ever for the future

Europe is more important than ever as a community of values and as a creative force for the future, said Federal Council President Andrea Eder-Giftschthaler. It must therefore be the common goal of further developing the Union in constructive exchange, with a clear sense of responsibility and at the same time relieving excessive bureaucracy. The concept of a Europe of the regions is of central importance. Salzburg is a very active member of the regions committee. To the same extent, Austria’s obligations towards its neighbors are not to lose sight of its neighbors. Ukraine must therefore continue to be clearly and closed. (Conclusion) PST
