Those interested in handicrafts have the opportunity to experience the Viennese handicrafts up close. As part of the “European Days of the Crafts”, from March 31 to April 6th, numerous Viennese craft businesses open their doors and provide exciting insights into their workshops and traditional handicraft techniques. The Wiener handicrafts of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce has been a partner of this Europe -wide initiative, which originally comes from France since 2015. The aim is to raise awareness of craftsmanship and to underline the importance of the crafts of crafts for culture and economy.
Vienna as the center of handicrafts
The Wiener Handwerk platform, a cross -sectoral initiative of the trade and craft division, combines over 200 companies from 19 artisanal industries. These are characterized by high craftsmanship, attention to detail and artistic value.
“The combination of manual precision work with an appealing design using old craftsmanship and the use of the highest quality raw materials looks back in Vienna. The platform Wiener handicrafts wants to keep this connection alive and make it visible in public. According to Maria Neumann, chairwoman of the business and craft division in the Vienna Chamber of Commerce.
Whether gold and silversmiths, art pencil, knife or fashion designer- Wiener handicrafts combines manual precision, creative design and a conscious handling of resources.
Open day, hands-on workshops and tours
Many Viennese handicraft companies invite you to work with workshops, exhibitions, interactive workshops and demonstrations. Visitors can actively participate – be it with the knife, dye wool, design ceramics or rework furniture. In addition to the workshop visits, the Viennese handicraft platform organizes tours that focus on traditional craftsmanship and sustainable manufacturing methods. In the sense of sustainability, artisans often place a conscious focus on the recycling and reused of raw materials in the manufacturing process and thus on a careful recycling of materials. These tours for handicrafts are therefore increasingly presented to companies whose entrepreneurial focus is on recycling, upcycling, repair and restoration.
Tour 1: “Viennese highlights”: The tour gives an insight into art glasses and the famous Viennese snow globe manufacturer.
Tour 2: “Viennese treasures and unique”: The tour includes a visit to a goldsmith and an art scene.
Tour 3: “Second life in a new guise”: Creative fashion made of recycled materials and sustainable furrier art are focal points of this tour.
Tour 4: “From old too unique”: The highlight of this tour is upcycling design and innovative leather processing.
