On August 25, 2024, Austria won the gold medal at the 3×3 European Basketball Championship in Vienna. The team with the army athlete Corporal Nico Kaltenbrunner was able to prevail in the final against Serbia with 18 to 17. For the 24-year-old, who trains at the Army Sports Center in the southern part of the city, and his team, it is the best result to date at a major event.

The Army Sports Center has been promoting Austrian competitive sports with its eleven Army competitive sports centers since 1962. Every year, up to 495 people, including 20 in sports for the disabled, are part of the army sports support program. Army sports traditionally provide numerous participants in major sporting events such as the Olympic Games, European and World Championships. The athletes of the Federal Army have already achieved numerous successes and medals for Austria in the past.
